Cree Trail - Yellow Quill
Spruce Woods Provincial Park

June 5, 2020 Cree Trail is a great hike if you’re looking for a relaxed couple hours in the woods. It follows a well groomed, mostly even trail that loops twice, crossing over itself in the middle. If you’d like to make this hike a little more challenging, you can add on the 5.8 km Assiniboine Trail instead of continuing back to the parking lot.

Length: 5.1 kms

Duration: 1.5-2 hours.

Facilities: Non-flush toilets at trail head and a cabin meant for winter use equipped with wood stove.

Trail head Location: Turn north onto #5 Highway as you’re leaving Kiche Manitou Campground. Continue in this direction past the Spirit Sands and Marsh’s Lake turn offs until you see the sign for the Yellow Quill trail system on the north side of the road. After a short driveway you’ll find yourself at the trail head.

Signage: The trail is very well marked by thin yellow signs with stick figures on them showing the permissible means of transportation. Examples can be found below.

Trail condition: The trail was very well marked and groomed and mostly made up of grass and dirt. Very easy to walk on, not challenging at all.

Things to note: Very little cell reception, don’t rely on your phone.

Questions?: I’d love to chat about the hike if you have any questions. Visit the About page to find out how.
